About the author:

My research focuses on positive social development of children and adolescents with an emphasis on the role of cultural influences. I am particularly interested in the prosocial development (i.e., cooperation, helping, kindness, sharing, and volunteerism) of Mexican American youth. In addition, I have focused on the role of acculturation (i.e., adaptation to the mainstream culture) and enculturation (i.e., adaptation to the ethnic culture) by Mexican American youth. I also conduct research on the methodological challenges associated with studying ethnically diverse populations.

What I want to achieve:

Although much of the psychological research on ethnic minority youth has focused on mental health issues, my research has consistently provided a counter vision of these youth by focusing on their development of positive behavioral patterns.
