Janeen Baxter

Professor and Director of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Children and Families over the Life Course, Institute for Social Science Research, University of Queensland, Australia

About the author:

My research investigates gender inequality, family dynamics and wellbeing over the life course. I have examined these patterns in Australia, but also cross-nationally to show how differing social contexts affect individual outcomes. I often use longitudinal data that tracks individuals over time to examine how life course transitions affect social and economic outcomes and I have a particular interest in understanding the intergenerational transfer of social disadvantage.

What I want to achieve:

I would like to improve the quality and impact of social science research and the capacity for social scientists to do impactful research that improves life outcomes and reduces social disadvantage. I am particularly interested in reducing gender inequality by shining a light on the institutional inertia and structural roadblocks that maintain unequal gender divisions of labour.
