About the author:

My research focuses on understanding the bidirectional relationship between physiological state and social behavior. My research has led to interventions that enhance spontaneous social behavior and improve emotional regulation through manipulations designed to calm physiological state. Underlying this research is a theoretical approach that investigates the influence of cues of safety on the neural regulation of physiological state.

What I want to achieve:

The goal of my research is to optimize the human experience by demonstrating the neural pathways associated with social behavior are shared with the neural processes promoting health, growth, and restoration.

My previous positions:

  • Director, Brain-Body Center, Department of Psychiatry, University of Illinois.
  • Chair, Department of Human Development, University of Maryland.
